Understanding how market volatility affects your LifeSight fund

11 October 2022

In recent weeks, you may have seen news stories about volatility in investment markets. We wanted to let you know what that means for your LifeSight account.

What is happening?

Investment markets, and the prices of assets that pension schemes are typically invested in – particularly government bonds – have been volatile towards the start of Autumn 2022. This has been caused by a combination of the war in Ukraine and rising energy costs, and recently announced government and central bank policies. The overall situation is very fluid. Whilst we are not geo-political experts and cannot predict how the complex combination of events may evolve from here, we are investment experts and are monitoring the impact on LifeSight members’ savings.

What does it mean for my LifeSight fund?

We continue to closely monitor fund performance and remain confident in the robustness and continued appropriateness of our long-term investment strategies. Most members who are not close to retirement do not need to take immediate action.

What if I’m planning to retire soon?

  • If you are planning to retire soon and buy an annuity or withdraw some of your savings, we strongly recommend that you either receive financial advice from an impartial FCA-regulated financial advisor, or free and impartial guidance from Pension Wise before you proceed with taking your pension benefits.

  • If you are based in the UK, you may also be entitled to At Retirement Support through LifeSight. Please visit the ‘My Bookshelf’ area of your LifeSight account for further details of the services available to you.

Where can I find more information?
